INDUSTRIAL REUSE

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA

PROJECT TEAM:

Architect:    Schmidt Associates

Civil Engineer:  Schmidt Associates

Anderson + Bohlander was retained by PR Mallory, LLC after working with Englewood CDC on several planning engagements that had focused on redevelopment strategies for the historic PR Mallory Factory buildings and campus.  PR Mallory was an Indianapolis-based electronics company that provided high-level jobs for the surrounding community until the 1980s as the company began to shrink and was ultimately closed.

PR Mallory, LLC members include Englewood CDC and the John H Boner Neighborhood Center who had shared-interests in finding a productive reuse for the the buildings and a more integrated role in the community.  The building is now home to both the Purdue Polytech High School and Paramount School’s second location. The site design included turning an old, empty parking lot into a community green space that will act as the heart of the larger Englewood Neighborhood, and focused on updating the surrounding streetscapes to improve pedestrian safety site access.  A new drive wraps around the green space to serve pick-up and drop-off services, and a new grand set of stairs were created to serve a new building entrance with integrated seating opportunities and open plaza space for student and teacher interaction.
