VISION PLAN

BROWNSBURB, INDIANA

In 2021, Anderson + Bohlander was retained by the Town of Brownsburg’s Economic Development Department to develop a vision for revitalizing a 3-mile stretch of Main Street. Design and planning concepts included reconfigured lanes and intersections, decorative lighting and paving, landscape treatments, signage and banner concepts, and activated seating areas. In addition to the streetscape itself, our team developed yield analysis studies for multiple important properties along the corridor. This included city-owned property in the downtown core, a recently closed large grocery store, and two aging strip centers. Key characteristics for these areas included improving walkability, tying character and block patterns better into adjacent neighborhoods on the town’s street grid, and improving vehicular and pedestrian intersections at signalized entry points. The design cues play off the context of existing masonry colors and patterns within the historic downtown core’s most beloved buildings.
